.KEY MESSAGES...
- Light mountain showers and isolated thunderstorms this
afternoon and evening into early next week.
- Shower and isolated thunderstorm potential spreads into the
foothills and into the northern Sacramento Valley for the
weekend, highest potential Saturday for Shasta County.
- Light showers over the Sierra early to mid-week, south of
Interstate 80.
- Temperatures trend cool for weekend, a little above normal mid
to late next week.

.DISCUSSION...
...Today...Mostly sunny, dry and warm in the Valley through today.
Forecast highs late this afternoon will be in the 60s to mid 70s
in the Valley and foothills, and in the 50s to 60s in the
mountains. An upper level trough is moving eastward into the area.
This will bring a chance (20-35%) of mountain showers this
afternoon and evening, with a slight chance (10-15%) of
thunderstorms over the Sierra.
...Saturday - Mid Next Week... The trough will merges with
another trough over the weekend, bringing a better potential
(15-35% chances) for showers for the mountains, foothills, and
spreading into the northern Sacramento Valley. The highest chances
are over northern and eastern Shasta County. Showers and
isolated thunderstorms are expected to be limited mainly to the
mountains Monday. Snow amounts Saturday into early Monday are
expected to be generally light, a dusting to several inches,
highest over Lassen National Park and over the Sierra crest in far
eastern Tuolumne County. Travel impacts should be limited, with
slippery roads at times. Breezy south to southwest winds are
expected for the weekend, gusting to 15 to 25 mph in the Valley
and Delta, 30 to 40 mph in the mountains.
Lingering showers continue over the Sierra south of Interstate 80
Tuesday into Wednesday.
Gradual cooling is expected for the weekend. Highs will be in the
60s to 70s in the Valley and foothills, with cooler low to mid
40s to 50s for the higher elevations. Temperatures trend higher
and more seasonable mid to late week, with 70s to around 80 in
the Valley.

.AVIATION...
Areas of MVFR conditions possible in mountain showers or isolated
thunderstorms this afternoon into early next week, extending into
the northern Sacramento Valley and foothills this weekend.
Elsewhere, VFR conditions expected next 24 hours. Surface winds
remain under 12 kts through Saturday morning. Breezy southerly to
southwesterly wind gusts after 18z Saturday, with gusts up to
15-20 kts in the Valley and up to 20-30 kts over the mountains.
